WHAT ARE WAISTBEADS?
Waist beads are a traditional West African accessory that consist of small glass beads on a string or wire worn around the waist or hips. Waist beads have a long history tied to African and Egyptian cultures dating back to as early as the 15th century.
Waistbeads are commonly known as a way to gauge weight changes. But they are also associated with womanhood, maturity, and growth. In many traditional African ceremonies and rituals, waistbeads are presented and worn by men and women alike.

WHO CAN WEAR WAISTBEADS?
Divine Raine waistbeads is an inclusive brand to all identities, shapes and sizes. One of the most common misconceptions of waistbeads is that they can only be worn by women of African descent. However, waistbeads are a tool that can be used by all.
If you would like to wear a Waistbead, it is important to understand the cultural and spiritual context of these beautiful pieces before purchasing.

Meet Our Creator
My name is Kaylah Mercedes, and I am the proud owner of Divine Raine. Five years ago, my personal struggle with body dysmorphia led me to embark on a transformative waistbead journey when I purchased my first strand in Harlem, NY. As I tied those beads around my body, an unprecedented feeling of comfort washed over me.
For the first time in my life, I felt a sense of beauty in the body I had spent years despising. This experience ignited my dedication to healing and cultivating self-love. Inspired by this profound shift, I established Divine Raine.
The name Divine Raine holds deep significance for me. "Divine" represents the essence of God, while "Raine" is the maiden name of my maternal ancestors who have guided me throughout my life. The birth of Divine Raine was not just a passing idea; it was persistent and visited me incessantly. A dream reinforced this calling, reminding me to never ignore an idea that repeats itself.
Empowered by the universe's direct message, I wasted no time. I acquired the necessary supplies and embarked on this entrepreneurial journey with the guidance of my mother, grandmother, and generations of strong women before me. Divine Raine embodies the essence of divine beauty, self-acceptance, and ancestral wisdom.
The rest was herstory!
